Getting ready for the first meet-How do I prepare

As the days get closer to the first meet of the season, I wanted to let everyone know what to expect.  First, you should pack everything you need the night before.  Navasota is approximately an 1.5 hour  away and swimmers need to be checked in by 7:15 AM . This means departure from Huntsville is early!  Please make sure you arrive on time.  Failure to attend warm ups and check in could result in being scratched from the meet.   Once you get here and are ready to set up, you can choose your set up location-the park or the parking lot (not on the pool deck).  Normally it is very nice at Navasota because the pool is located next to a beautiful park,  but with all the rain you may need to bring a tarp to lay on the ground to keep the chairs from sinking into the mud.  If this doesn't work you could also set up across the street in the school parking lot. Once you have set up and the kids are finished warming up, you will need to let them know what events they are swimming. They probably won't have a master heat sheet to use, so you will need to purchase one ($3-5).  After the swimmers know what events they are swimming they will probably want to eat.  Please make sure they don't eat to heavily before their events.  I know this is hard because Navasota usually has a nice concession stand with donuts and breakfast tacos.  Remember if they eat to many sweets they could get sick.  If this is a concern for you, please feel free to bring your own food and snacks.  Most importantly for away meets is to watch your swimmer and listen for their events.  They need to be ON TIME to the ready bench and not running to the blocks before their race starts.   I am attaching a list of items that may help you pack your swimmer for this weekend.  Happy Swimming!
